Will Check Service
3 Reasons To Check Your Will, Today.
Is your existing will keeping secrets from you? Could your present will be a blank
cheque just waiting to be cashed in (at the time of your death)? Do you know the
potential implications of those technical [and often confusing] clauses contained
in your will? Has anyone (other than your will writer/solicitor) ever checked over
your will?
Your will could be:
- out of date. e.g. Your own wishes may not have changed but external circumstances
probably have. E.g. Your guardian or executor is no longer appropriate, your children
have grown up, your estate may qualify now for inheritance tax, funding long term
care may be a concern, or the Law and/or taxation rules may have changed. Very few
people understand what a professionally drafted will can really achieve;
- invalid. It might contain errors or omissions that will cost your estate money to
correct. We continue to be amazed at the number of errors we find in peoples’ wills,
many drafted by solicitors; or
- worth £3,000+ to your solicitor or will writer (to the detriment of your preferred
beneficiaries). Many solicitors and will writers often appoint themselves as executors
in your will. They can then charge their fees to obtain probate. These fees may
be a percentage of your estate, or charged out at an hourly rate of £200+ per hour.
What is more annoying for your surviving family is that they could probably undertake
the task of obtaining Probate and make a better job of it, for a [very] small fraction
of the price your solicitor will charge.
If these points are a concern to you then our ‘will-check’ service is the service
you want.
Save Money. Save Time.
The ‘will-check’ comprehensively checks an existing will for errors, omissions, and
areas of potential future cost - and provides a report to the testator advising what
remedial action is required, if any.
The the results come back OK then you have renewed confidence in your will.
However ...
The check often finds flaws in a will. Some of them are serious errors or omissions.
The check can also save an estate £1000’s in future fees - often highlighting substantial
savings in what would be an otherwise perfectly valid will. (e.g. Probate fees)
Without this check you may remain blissfully unaware that your will may incur substantial
costs in the future; in effect it could be a ‘blank cheque to a solicitor’ - the
effect of which will be to reduce the size of the inheritance your preferred beneficiaries
receive. Or, worse still, your existing ‘will’ could even be invalid - and in which
case you will be deemed to have died intestate.
By undertaking the check you can enjoy renewed confidence in your existing will without
incurring the cost of creating a new will. Or, if required, take action now to correct
any identified shortcomings. Either way you enjoy peace of mind knowing your will
should do its job when called upon.
